U15 Boys vs. U17 Girls National Team
January 6th, 2008
The U-17 Girls National team were on a six day training camp in South Florida in preparation for the 2008 U-17 World Cup or World Championships this summer. Many of the National Team players that attended a tournament in Brazil over Thanksgiving were present at this training camp. The Weston U-15 Boys were invited by the National Staff to play a friendly at the Holiday Inn sports complex off University on Sunday January 6th 2008.
The game started off at a very intense pace, with both sides not able to gain control or create any quality opportunities. Before the game the National Team coach asked if Laura, a local player from Team Boca, could guest play for the boys team, which turned out to be beneficial for Weston. Mid way through the first half, Laura stripped the US defender of the ball, beat the goalie, and slotted the first goal of the game. The game ended 1-0 in favor of Weston at half.
During the second half the National Team rotated the entire starting 11, which proved to make a significant difference to the pace of the game and early in the second half, Weston took advantage with Verneri Valimaa and Xavier Silva finishing off two great opportunities making it 3-0 Weston. Weston maintained control of the game, keeping the US Team under pressure and having many great scoring opportunities saved by a very talented National Team goalie. The game ended 3-0 in favor of the Fury. Hats off to Weston for a hard fought game against our Nations best.
