The WFSC continues to set the standard and expose its players to new levels of competition through programming and planning for all teams. However, of particular importance are the players that will be looking at colleges across the country this year or in the next two to three years. “Part of our focus as a club has to be providing opportunities for players to play in front of college coaches and be exposed to higher levels of competition. We achieve this through carefully choosing which tournaments specific teams attend, our unique relationship with Nike, actively promoting the ODP program to our players and by hiring staff with qualifications that can help us meet these goals” Said Marcelo Neveleff WFSC Technical Director.
The 2005-06 season has seen a great deal of growth for the Fury with an emphasis for the U16 and older competing outside of the local area at college showcase tournaments. All players of age are strongly encouraged to attend ODP. “We see ODP as an opportunity to place a player in an environment that will aid their growth as a player and a person. When a player is asked to step outside of their comfort zone they grow and thus when we as a club start exposing players to higher levels of competition and ask them to compete at showcase events they are better equipped to do so” Stated Aguinaldo Ferreira WFSC Girls Program Director.
The boys program overseen by Carlos Parra will have teams attend The CASL, Showcase Raleigh, NC which is one of the top five showcase events in the nation, the Sun Bowl in Tampa, Florida, Score at The Shore events across the country and Atlanta Cup. Qualification has been earned to the Disney Soccer Showcase for the U16 Premier Boys this 2005 holiday season and the U18 Premier Boys won their Regional Qualifier for the Super Clubs Regional and will now compete at the National Finals in summer 2006. Twelve Fury players where also selected to attend the Nike Friendlies in Bradenton, Fl in December 2005. “The programming and planning of these events are key to how we as a club can progress a players development, keep them excited about the game and keep them focused on ways that help them earn entry to a college and secure a great athletic and educational opportunity. Our thoughts are always for long term and as a club we need to make considerations that help our members as people and as athletes, that is why the provision of college exposure is so important to us” Carlos Parra WFSC Boys Program Director.
The Girls Program is ran by Aguinaldo "Gui Gui" Ferreira and will see teams visit the The CASL, Showcase in Raleigh, NC. WAGS in Washington D.C, Atlanta Cup, GA, Orange Classic, Ft Lauderdale, Fl, The Las Vegas Showcase, Nevada and Sony Cup in Houston, TX.
Many Fury players have already made commitments to NCAA Div 1 Colleges across the country for 2006 and will continue to do so and join many others before them who have go onto have college careers and educations.
